What Made You Play WoW?
5 years ago, World of Warcraft was one of those games I heard about from time to time. It sounds like a huge hit but $15 a month just sounded absurd for a game. There’s just no way I’m jumping in the WoW bandwagon.
Then ~3 years ago I came across the Southpark episode “Make Love, Not Warcraft”. The first time I watched that episode, my mind just took a 180 degree turn. I just gotta have that game!
Butters: I don’t play world of warcraft…
Cartman: Butters, you said that you’re on your computer all the time.
Butters: Yeah, but I’m playing hello kitty island adventure!
Cartman: Ugh… Butters, go buy world of warcraft, install it on your computer, and join the online sensation before we all murder you!
After watching the episode around 20+ times, by the time Christmas came, family members and cousins all decided to play World of Warcraft. We’re all gamers although not too hardcore and neither were we fans of MMORPG games, but “Make Love, Not Warcraft” just blew our brains out. I wonder how many this episode has mind-controlled into playing WoW?
Everyone remembers the first time they played WoW and it was just a magical experience especially if this is your first MMORPG. However, having played this game for so long already, the magic has faded a lot. Leveling isn’t that fun anymore, fishing in Mulgore is now a total waste of time, exploring new areas is now boring, etc. Now, end-game play is all about that endless race to get the current best in slot gear, getting stressed in raid, and leveling to 80 the fastest way possible.
The fun in WoW may have gotten left in the past for long-time gamers but all hope is not lost. Reminiscing old WoW memories such us answering “What made you play WoW?” might get you the fun factor back. What made you play World of Warcraft in the first place? For me it was exploring the World of Warcraft with friends and family no matter how absurd your adventure is (e.g. killing Alliance in South Shore all day). Getting great gear may be a priority now for level 80 characters but be reminded though that raiding and getting great gear is only one mini-game; There’s so much else to do in the world (of Warcraft). Dont’ forget the things you did that made the game fun,
What made you play WoW?

Great post.
You’re absolutely right about end-game raiding being but one of the available mini games.
As to the question: A mate go me into wow. I tried the trial edition and never looked back
Haha I’m the mate who tempts friends to play WoW
