PostHeaderIcon Use your professions’ cooldowns!

Using your professions’ cooldowns may be common sense. But common sense isn’t so common in this day and age of laziness and idiocy. I see a lot of people in /trade selling their professions’ cooldowns very cheap. And some of these people complain about their lack of gold supply.  Oh I wonder why…

People selling their professions’ cooldown have these in mind:

  1. “I don’t have the mats better just give the cd to someone else.” – How hard is it to log in to your bank alt and search the auction house for the mats? A virtual world couch potato  sounds a lot worse than the plain couch potato.
  2. “I’ll just sell my cooldown for fast gold.” – Fast 15-25 gold sounds more enticing than crafting stuff and trying to sell it for the next couple of days for around 150+ gold? How about use your cooldown and make a whole lot more? I guess people nowadays want everything in an instant like the #2 killer in the United States, FAST FOOD. No one wants to make a healthy sandwich anymore because…I’m guessing… it’s just not fast enough? Step 1: Get some buns (mats). Step 2: Slam some cooked animal meat inside (craft it). Step 3: bite (sell).
  3. “I’ll just give it to my guildmate for free because he needs it.” While I’m not putting philanthropy down, you’re practically giving away your gold that you need. There is a gold value to that cooldown and you just can’t give it away for free. Who knows, your guildmate might just be a jackass selling the crafted stuff in the AH. Unless you’re planning to be the Jesus in WoW or you’re already comfortable with your gold supply, don’t give away your cooldowns.

Tailoring Cloth Cooldowns

Tailors have the choice of selecting which cloth specialty they want. The choices are Shadoweave, Spellfire and Mooncloth. A specialty will allow the creation of 2 of that cloth for the price of 1 mats. Now in Wotlk, that means you can either create 2 of Ebonweave, Spellweave or Moonshroud, depending on your specialty. You can still use the other cooldowns that is not your specialty. The big downside is it takes 3 days and 20 hours before you can use that cooldown again. I suggest looking at the AH and see which cloth has the most ridiculous price right now (in my server, spellweave may cost up to 200g). Remember to use ALL the cooldowns.

It is possible to change specialization by going to Lower City in Shattrath and talking to your current specialty trainer and unlearn it for 150 gold. Learning another specialty will cost you another 20 gold.

Mining’s Titansteel Bar Cooldown

This cooldown I see a lot of miners selling in trade for 15 gold. I, of course, buy them if I have the extra materials (ha-ha). With only a 20 hour cooldown, this is an easy way to get extra gold. Even though titanium ore’s price increased dramatically since patch 3.2, the price of titanium bar increased as well. Even if the materials were all bought, I can still profit around 100 gold just by smelting it. Still, check your server’s price for titanium bar and see how much you can earn from it just by smelting.

Jewelcrafting’s Icy Prism

With patch 3.2, Frozen Orb got a lot cheaper and so using this cooldown wouldn’t be a pain in the pockets. Quoting Wowhead’s comments page on Frozen Orb:

“wow these are worthless on my server isold mine for 8g the highest on the AH was 9g” – Darom

Other materials needed are 3 Chalcedony, 3 Shadow Crystal and 3 Dark Jade. Chalcedony costs around 2 gold each, Dark Jade and Shadow crystal around 1 gold each. In total, even if you buy the materials, it will only cost around 21g – 32 gold.

Icy Prism gives you 2-3 rare gems, and a chance of getting epic gems and dragon’s eye. In a worst case scenario of getting only 2 gems, cut them and try and sell it to break even the cost of the materials bought.

Alchemy Research

Using your Northrend Alchemy Research will make you learn other alchemy recipes. Other than that, it can also give you flasks without even using frost lotus. If you get elixirs instead, try to sell it to break even the costs of the materials that you bought. The downside is you can only use the research every 3 days.

Alchemy Epic Gem Transmutes

From Transmutation Mastery Profits post

Since patch 3.2, alchemists have the ability to transmute epic gems with 20 hour cd. Transmutation masters can be really lucky if these procs. Imagine a x5 Cardinal Ruby. That’s an instant 750 gold uncut.

Here are the transmutes you can do:

  1. Transmute Ametrine
  2. Transmute: Cardinal Ruby
  3. Transmute: Eye of Zul
  4. Transmute: Dreadstone
  5. Transmute: Magestic Zircon
  6. Transmute: King’s Amber

Inscription Research Cooldowns

There will come a point that you have already learned everything from Book of Glyph Mastery. The only way you can learn more glyph recipes is to research. Northrend Inscription Research allows you to learn a random major glyph. Minor Inscription Research allows you to learn a random minor glyph.

The cash cow of inscription is selling glyphs. And those learned by research and books are the ones most likely to be expensive. So make sure to use the cooldown every time to give you access to in-demand and expensive glyphs.

People must have forgotten that professions can be a good source of extra gold.  It’s about time people use it to its potential other than getting fancy item enhancements. There’s a reason why Blizzard gave you that awesome cooldown so don’t put it to waste.

You may want to include Inscription and the Northrend and Minor Glyph research as well. Inscription is a viable money making profession done right.

@Triv – Thanks triv! Being a scribe myself, I can’t believe I forgot to put that. Will edit soon! :)

Don’t forget the Alchemy transmutes. If you do an epic gem transmute you can make 100+ gold (depending on your server economy).

If you are transmute master it can be even better!

@Thomas and @Triv – thanks for the reminder. Already edited it :)
