Patience, friend!

Sometimes, in our hurry to get items sold in the auction house, we eventually lose potential profit. The image above is only one example of a situation wherein patience wins you more gold. It gets tempting to undercut the person but then again, when his 3 items gets bought out, mine’s next on the list. If mine has been bought out, I profit an additional 70 gold. Another example would be people who post really cheap rare gems (5-9g each) in the auction house. If there are around 3 gems at 5-9g and there’s no one else, feel free to price it at 25g.
In situations like these, if the person who deep undercuts doesn’t look like he’s posting a lot anyway (not more than 4-5), then you can post at a much higher price. Chances are, his cheap items will be bought out and yours is next.
If your competitor is continuously refilling his items in the auction house throughout the day, there’s a slim chance of selling your items at a high price. If it doesn’t seem like he’s going to give up posting cheap items, you have two choices: one is to price as low as he does or two, give it a few days and he might eventually run out of materials. Option two is viable because no one person can forever supply for the demand of a whole server’s faction anyway. Once he’s out, you can come back and kick ass in the auction house.

Yes, I totally agree with you on this one sass, the long game can sometimes pay off high dividends. on some items you gotta keep undercutting and relisting to stay ahead of the game, vendor items are prime examples of this, but crafted items like gems are sometimes worth looking at the long term.
Another tactis is when listing an item that has a few low price sellers lets say your gem above is to drop one in at say 175g so that when your lower price competitors auctiosn end they will under cut you, say to 165g you can then drop in your remaining gems one or two at a time at your desired price. 140g say, and with luck they will sell fast enough that your compitition when checking the ah will see they’re item as the lower priced and not relist. This works especially well with gems and flasks I find.
Sure the savvier sellers wont fall for it but its nice when it works

Nice trick morningstar
Listing bulk items at once (like say, 20 flasks, 1 per stack) will most likely piss off other flask sellers and undercut you too.
