Those who love to farm for raw materials and sell it fast on the AH/trade channel have a big problem of not measuring their gold/hour rate. If you’re farming, it’s necessary to know how much you can potentially earn in an hour because you should know its advantage over just doing the 25 dailies. It takes an average of 1 hour 20 minutes to finish 25 dailies which will give around 325+gold depending on which dailies you do. If in the same amount of time farming for eternals, relics, etc., you only get less than 325+ gold, then you’re better off doing dailies instead.

However, the big problem with measuring gold/hour rate is it can’t be consistent. If one day you measured you can farm Eternal Fire for 500 gold/ hour, the next day may be different; Lots of people farming eternal fire, drop/respawn rates are terrible,  getting ganked, etc.

At the very least, measuring gold/hour rate does is give you an idea of how much you should be earning. If in the first 20 minutes of farming you notice a lot of people farming around as well, or drop rates are so horrible, and you have no way of arriving at your 500 gold/hour rate, then stop farming. Pick another time of the day and try again. You’re better off doing something else than farming on a bad day and just getting a potential 200+gold/hour.

How to measure gold/hour rate

1. Use a timer. Just in case you don’t know, wow already provides a stopwatch in-game. Two ways of accessing the stopwatch: one is to click the time on the minimap and clicking the watch icon; the second one is by just typing /sw

2. Clear your bags. It would be easier to count your gold/hour rate if your bags are clean. Once your 1 hour is done, then everything in your bags are considered your potential gold earned.

3. Disenchant all greens. When you get greens, ask someone to disenchant for you. The enchant materials are included in your potential gold earned/hour.

4. Use addon to sell your junk. A good addon is Selljunk. This will sell all your vendor trash. Yes, they’re part of your gold earned/hour.

5. Place a value on items. Once your junk has been sold and your greens are turned into dusts, look at the AH and see how much the items you got are going for. Add all that and you get your gold/hour rate.

This is pretty good advice. My favorite place to farm leather is around gundrak in zuldrak. The raptors usually drop 2-3 pieces of borean leather and junk. The only thing this article doesnt measure is the random drops that can occur such as the baby raptor pet which can sell 500g+ on AH.
