PostHeaderIcon Power-Leveling Professions Saving Tips

Power-leveling professions can be such a pain in the pockets because low level materials can become even more expensive than Northrend materials. An alternative would be farming the items yourself but boredom will be your worst enemy. To prevent you from spending too much gold power-leveling your profession, here are a few tips:

PostHeaderIcon Trade Channel Spying

There’s a lot too learn from the trade channel on what people are up to in their gold-making ventures. You can get a lot of clues on what their market is especially from those using kirby signs with a “pls COD” in the end. Then if you want, you can infiltrate their market.

For example: The picture above shows one person looking for arcane dust, netherweave cloth, infinite dust and frostweave cloth. An experienced player can assume that he’s making imbued netherweave bags and frostweave bags. However, for those players who are not too familiar with what raw materials make what, WoWhead and the comments page is your friend. You can pick a lot of tips and tricks in the comments page.

Of course not all “WTB” chats in the trade channel means they’re up to something. Some are just looking for materials to level up their profession or craft an epic item they could wear. But still, it helps to give you an idea what people are up to. This picture above shows a person probably leveling his alchemy. He’s looking for Goldthorn for 50 gold a stack. This gives an idea that it’s possible to make a huge fortune off low level herbs and it costs even more than northrend herbs! Plus, maybe he’s looking for Goldthorn in the trade channel because 1) There’s no more stock in the AH, or 2) Goldthorn in the AH costs more than 50g a stack.

With the data you gather from spying in the trade channel, you can be creative on how to take advantage of what you’ve learned. For instance, since Goldthorn’s price can skyrocket as such, you can buy off cheap goldthorns posted and post them at a high price.

Hmmm.. this makes me wanna herb Goldthorn.

PostHeaderIcon Relisting Glyphs

Ever since 2010, the glyph market has taken a huge plunge, at least on my server. From most glyphs’ pricing usually at 25g+, the price took a dive and most glyphs are selling no more than 4g each. Happy new year!

It’s either the new people playing the glyph market don’t know how to take advantage of in-demand glyphs, or they’re playing deep-undercutting, trying to force other competitors to leave the market. But it could also be a lot are currently leveling inscription and they’re just posting glyphs in the AH at random prices to get rid of them.

In any case, I don’t really like the idea of glyphs being too cheap. I decided to re-list glyphs that are going too cheap with the help of Quick Auctions (Read more on Quick Auctions).

Above is an example of death knight glyphs that are going too cheap. Those in the red bracket (my illustration) are glyphs going for 4 gold each. Then the quantity is quite low as well, so it’s easy to buy it out and re-list it at a high price. For instance, Glyph of Horn of Winter has only 1 posted and it’s going for 4g. I can easily buy that out and post it at 35 gold. Glyph of Chains of Ice is currently going for 4 gold as well but there are 7 listed. If I buy that out, it’ll cost me an instant 28 gold. But then again if I sell even at least one at 35 gold, that’s an easy 7 gold profit.

Your only problem with this method is if you have a deep undercutter in your server who won’t stop listing glyphs for 4-5 gold each. If you have one on your server, then you’re out of luck.

PostHeaderIcon Patience, friend!

patiencefriend

Sometimes, in our hurry to get items sold in the auction house, we eventually lose potential profit. The image above is only one example of a situation wherein patience wins you more gold. It gets tempting to undercut the person but then again, when his 3 items gets bought out, mine’s next on the list.  If mine has been bought out, I profit an additional 70 gold. Another example would be people who post really cheap rare gems (5-9g each) in the auction house. If there are around 3 gems at 5-9g and there’s no one else, feel free to price it at 25g.

In situations like these, if the person who deep undercuts doesn’t look like he’s posting a lot anyway (not more than 4-5), then you can post at a much higher price. Chances are, his cheap items will be bought out and yours is next.

If your competitor is continuously refilling his items in the auction house throughout the day, there’s a slim chance of selling your items at a high price. If it doesn’t seem like he’s going to give up posting cheap items, you have two choices: one is to price as low as he does or two, give it a few days and he might eventually run out of materials. Option two is viable because no one person can  forever supply for the demand of a whole server’s faction anyway. Once he’s out, you can come back and kick ass in the auction house.

PostHeaderIcon Profitting From Profession Leveling Guides

Everyone who has maxed out their profession has most likely followed profession leveling guides they have googled. And what’s the # site listed when you google something in the line of “[insert profession here] leveling guide”? wow-professions.com

Profession power-levelers have no time to experiment which recipes are the most efficient, and therefore blindly follows googled guides they find. As long as the guide uses the least amount of materials (as the guides say), they’d go for it!

PostHeaderIcon Patch 3.3: Auto Cancel Auctions, Cancelled!

If you have used Quick Auctions in patch 3.3, or any other auto canceling addons, I hope you noticed that auto canceling auctions DO NOT WORK anymore. A note from the author of Quick Auctions 2:

NOTE REGARDING AUCTION CANCELING IN 3.3:

Blizzard has changed auction canceling so it can’t automatically be done, there is still a loophole in it that one hardware event (key press/mouse click/etc) will let you cancel an unlimited amount of auctions. The downside is there is no more automatic canceling where you press a button and go AFK for 20 minutes.

This can be gotten around, but it’ll require some sort of interacting as in: QA scans all auctions, finds auctions to undercut and you have to press a mouse button or use a key and it will start smart canceling.

However, I would not be surprised to see Blizzard break this even more in a future patch so one hardware event = one auction canceled. While I am going to provide a fix keep in mind that the smart canceling will likely die off one day. – Shadowed in Curse

While auto canceling has been heaven-sent for some, it also encouraged AH-camping. I guess Blizzard sees auto canceling as an unfair advantage to those who do not have time to spend all day in the auction house. Well, it sure is. From now on, canceling auctions will be done one by one, manually. Although some comments on the page says using a macro to cancel auctions still works but I haven’t got the chance to try one yet.
