Recalculating Crafting Flasks
Frost lotus and several other herbs (other than Lichbloom) took a plummet down the price drainage. There used to always be a lack in supply in the herbs department. Now, the Auction House is screaming: “NO MORE HERBS”
Some individuals post 35 stacks of 20 of a certain herb at a time. Makes one wonder if there is a profession called gardening. How the hell do they get this huge amount of herbs. They do not seem to be running out of supply. I suspect a huge spike in gold farmers in every server.
Anyhow, the consequence of an overflowing supply of herbs is the great price drop. Ever since the increase in drop rate of frost lotus plus being able to trade frozen orb for frost lotus, its price plummeted down. Frost lotus, now at 9g each (at least on my server) is really dirt cheap compared to the 30-50 gold we’re so used to see from the start of WOTLK. Flasks, which used to be a huge burden for the pockets of raiders, now costs so cheap people are also using it in the battlegrounds nowadays.
Cheap herbs and cheap flasks; it’s time to recalculate if crafting flasks is still profitable for the alchemist. The result: bad news.
If your proc ability is having a bad day, profit is very low. The only way to profit much from making flasks is to be lucky with procs. May the gods of procs be with you on this one. You can only earn a few hundred gold if the proc gods favor you, and if you can sell them all. It still gets you extra gold to help with the repair bills, but ultimately, that dream of buying a mechano-hog from crafting flasks is already blurry.

Here’s a spreadsheet for flasks. This, however, does not take into account profit you may gain from procs. Sometimes procs can be very unreliable so it is better to see if you can profit from crafting flasks even without procs. If you do get procs, then more profit for you!

Use your professions’ cooldowns!
Using your professions’ cooldowns may be common sense. But common sense isn’t so common in this day and age of laziness and idiocy. I see a lot of people in /trade selling their professions’ cooldowns very cheap. And some of these people complain about their lack of gold supply. Oh I wonder why…
Transmutation mastery profits!
Transmutation masters, like potions masters, are a rare species in WoW. Most probably they got brainwashed by the possibility of getting a x10 proc in making flasks as an elixir master, while other mastery get only a maximum of x5 proc. They must have forgotten the reason why making flasks gives an automatic x2 is because the duration of a flask was reduced to 1 hour each from a previously 2 hours each. Thus, x2 flasks = 2 hours duration so the price was also cut in half. It’s essentially still the same when you compare the price to the number of procs.
This post is going to be about how to profit using transmutations, to finally give the transmutation minority a chance to make bags of gold and avoid the temptation by the elixir propagandists to switch over to their side.
Potion Mastery spec worth it?
Being a pot master always remind me of something else besides the World of Warcraft. This is one of the reasons my specialty in alchemy is potion mastery, thinking there’s a lot of money in it because you know, it’s pot! Having a fascination for “stoner flicks”, it excites me every time I make a pot and selling it to other people. Steering away from writing a “stoner” post that may get me investigated further for drug trafficking, apparently, not all potions are worth crafting for profit.
